Northeast Vernon County high school students will learn about technology hands-on when the school purchases 120 Chrome Books in part with a $9,000 grant from the Finis Moss Trust.
"We hope to get them in a week. We'll have some extras. My concern is battery life," Superintendent Charles Naas said at the NEVC School Board meeting Thursday.
High school principal Chris Hudson said, "We'll have a couple of strips for charging stations, but we're hoping using those kind of things will not become habits."
Elementary principal Kendall Ogburn said he was looking into making or buying interactive whiteboards to add to the technology at the elementary school.
Naas told the board he expects one solar panel to be installed on the high school and three solar panels to be installed on the elementary school within the coming months.
"There will be live wireless connections to the panels that stream that data to monitors that will display how much is being produced and how much money we're saving," he said. "There will also be some curriculum for the students based on the panels."
Also in the principal's report, Hudson told the board the intruder drill was a success and enrollment reached 103 students. Enrollment for elementary is 131 students.
