Suspect arrested after foot chase in Richards

A suspect in a stolen property investigation with outstanding warrants was arrested in Richards Monday afternoon following a foot pursuit with members of the Vernon County Sheriff's Office.

Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said his office received information that Jonathan S. Howard, 26, was staying in Richards. The sheriff said Howard was standing in the back yard when they pulled up, but took off on foot and into some trees when he saw them.

Deputies chased Howard on foot and lost him for a short time, but found Howard hiding in the woods about an hour later.

The sheriff said when they could not find Howard, more deputies were called out to help look for him because the Sheriff's Office was not going to leave until he was in custody.

Howard had a felony warrant for fraudulent use of a credit card and a Class A misdemeanor warrant for receiving stolen property.

"People are tired of their stuff getting stolen and they need to know that we will not stop looking for them until we find them," said Mosher of the alleged perpetrators. The sheriff said that suspected methamphetamines were also located near the area Howard was standing when they first arrived.

Howard is being held in the Vernon County Jail on both warrants with no bond.
