Nevada Middle School wrestling season begins

COLUMBUS, Kan. -- The Nevada Middle School wrestling team saw its first action of the season Saturday, competing in the Columbus Tournament.

Head coach Robert Watts' squad fared very well on the day, finishing in fourth place or better in seven different A-bracket weight classes. Two of those seven finishes were championships, won by Colton Shepard, at 95 pounds, and Caleb Longobardi, at 180.

Tanner Gotschall finished second at 105, while Clay Landoll, Holden Pettit and Jarod Gerster finished third at 110, 120 and 134, respectively.

Braydon Ast rounded out Nevada's top-four A-bracket finishers with his fourth-place showing at 100 pounds.

In the B bracket, Cayden Campbell and Wesley Campbell finished second at 134 and 260 pounds, respectively.

The middle school Tiger grapplers are scheduled to be back in action on Monday, at Pittsburg, Kan.
