Laura Alverda Weak
Laura Alverda (Edwards) Weak, 75, went to walk with Jesus on Nov. 17, 2013. She was born on June 8, 1938, to Robert (Bob) and Melissa Viola (Jones) Edwards. After a short time in Kansas City, the family returned to the Osceola area in 1945. Alverda attended Red Rock and Lewis grade schools and the Osceola High School.
She married Kenneth Weak on Jan. 16, 1971. Shortly after, they moved to the Deerfield area where Alverda enjoyed her garden and fruit trees. She often referred to herself as a "dirt farmer." Everything did grow bigger and healthier with her special touch.
Alverda accepted Jesus as her Savior at an early age. She enjoyed singing and playing the guitar to praise her Lord and she attended the Deerfield Baptist Church. Alverda also enjoyed time spent hunting and fishing. But most of all she was anxious to see loved ones that had gone before her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Weak; her parents; one brother, Jimmy Edwards; and a grandson, Joshua Johnston.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her children, Nadine (Taber) Cundiff and husband, Scott, from Garden City, Mo., Marilyn (Taber) Johnston and husband, Terry, from Bronson, Kan., Sheila (Taber) Hester and husband, Tom, from Highland, Ill., Sandra (Taber) Gundy and husband, Brent, from Walker, Mo., Mike Weak and wife, Andrea, from Pocahontas, Ill.; grandchildren, Brady Hyde, of Gladstone, Mo., Brian Hyde, of San Diego, Calif., Scotty Cundiff, of Harrisonville, Mo., Brandi Gregg, of East Lynne, Mo., Jeremy Johnston, of Kansas City, Mo., Jamie Johnston, of Littleton, Colo., Jesse Johnston and wife, Megan, of Pittsburg, Kan., Kayleigh Hester, of Highland, Ill., Whitney (Gundy) Shaw and husband, Tyler, of Walker, Mo., Shelby Gundy, Walker, Mo., and Levi and Kyran Weak, of Pocahontas, Ill.; one brother, Robert Lee Edwards, of Richmond, Mo.; one sister, Geraldine Reno, of Pittsburg, Kan.; a dear friend, Raymond Rowland, of Richards, Mo.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
