Down with the old building

Floyd Jernigan/Daily Mail The hydraulic excavator digs out chunks of the building in the 300 block of West Cherry Wednesday morning during demolition work to pave the way for a new fire station on the property north of city hall. The work is part of a plan to build new facilities for the police and fire departments, the municipal court and the city council.

Was the building leased out to anyone? Was it in good condition? We get upset when a building is torn down...but seriously, if the owners don't "keep them up", that's worse! The historical building at the southwest corner of Ash and Austin was purchased and NO maintenance was done on it...it was torn down for the price of a video store BECAUSE it wasn't maintained and was too expensive to redo for any useful purpose. It's a shame to tear them down...but it's a bigger shame that greedy owners don't keep them up....same for square...rotten roofs, crumbling buildings!!! Greedy!

The city's architect said that the building was sound and could be part of the project. But Nevada has a bad history with historical buildings.
