The Sheldon Vision Committee brought in Breanna Sheridan, Stevens College computer and video equipment manager, who has a Bachelors in digital filmmaking, to produce a historical and informational film about the town.
The film will be part of a presentation to Drury University architecture students, who will work with the community to make a vision plan for making improvements to Sheldon for the next 10 to 20 years.
Sheridan looked through several historic photographs, including pictures of the school, grain elevator, farming, railroad and downtown from the early to mid-1900s, at the committee's meeting Sunday. She spent last week filming downtown, businesses and the park during the hour before dusk.
"The golden hour gives the best light and most interesting shadows," she said. "I want to establish space and visually represent this town. I want to show where it is now and where it used to be."
Phyllis Sprenkle explained much of what would be included in the narration of the video.
"In the present we have controversies about whether to tear down the 1912 school building or restore it," Sprenkle said. "We are working on the park and several grants. We have aging infrastructure and deteriorating buildings."
Sheridan said once the committee has developed a working script, more ideas of what needs to be talked about will come through.
"I plan to get the completed version done by Jan. 15," she said, adding that she will return this week to get additional footage of the school and in-person interviews.
Sprenkle said if the film runs short of the presentation time, the group will chat and field questions.
"If we have anything to show them, I will be thrilled," she said. "We're working on having shirts, hats and city plates as gifts for the students."
