Sheldon Vision Committee prepares to visit Drury

Gearing up for the visit from Drury University students on Jan. 25, the Sheldon Vision Committee ironed out the schedule of events at its meeting on Sunday.
The six students plan to arrive at 11:30 a.m. at the Methodist Church. After brief introductions, the committee will put on a meal of various soups and desserts and then give a tour of the town and nearby areas such as Bushwhacker Lake and farms. Anyone in Sheldon will have the opportunity to meet the students at 3 p.m. at the Methodist Church.
The tour is the first step in making a vision plan for the town. The Drury University architecture students will work with the community to create a plan for making improvements to Sheldon for the next 10 to 20 years.
Phyllis Sprenkle said she would work on a display of Sheldon memorabilia; Jerod Lamb volunteered to host the tour and walk the students through the old school building. Sprenkle said she would also work on making either a pie or goodie bag for each of the students to take back with them.
The committee will travel to Springfield on Jan. 22 to make a video presentation to the students. Despite not having the video ready for the Jan. 12 meeting, the committee planned to practice their presentation at their next meeting Jan. 19.
After the first student and community meeting in January, the students will return to Sheldon four more times. The meetings have been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 17, at the Baptist Church, March 10 at the Christian Church, April 7 at the community building and May 12 at the school for the final presentation.
By the Feb. 17 meeting, the committee agreed to have Sheldon T-shirts and hats for each of the students.
Sheldon Vision Committee members include Judy Cole, Amanda Hall, Traci Jones, Jerod Lamb, Eileen Leininger, Gene Leininger, Marlene Moran, Robert Moran, Becky Morgan, Austin O'Neal and Phyllis Sprenkle.
