Bronaugh girls rout Golden City, 52-21
GOLDEN CITY, Mo. -- Bronaugh's girls stayed alive in the consolation round of the 58th annual Golden City Girls' Basketball Tournament, racing past the host school, 52-21, Wednesday night.
The Lady Wildcats will face Greenfield, a 47-21 winner in the other half of the consolation round, for fifth place Friday, at 4 p.m.
The third-place game takes place at 5:30, with the championship Saturday, at 5:30. Jasper, Dadeville, Liberal and Lockwood are vying for those places.
Bronaugh had little difficulty Wednesday, but the game was close until the second quarter. The two teams were separated only by a point after 8 minutes, with Bronaugh ahead, 8-7.
The Wildcats broke loose for 22 points in the second frame and built a 30-15 edge at halftime. They continued the onslaught in the third quarter, firing in 20 points, while again holding the home team under double digits, with five.
That netted a 50-20 margin and reserves played out the final period.
Martell Moore's 21 points led all scorers, pacing the winners. Heather Baker contributed nine, Amanda Raper six, Lora Shaw and Sierra Arens four, Taylor Stratford three, and Katey Rider and Mandy Murphy two.
