Nevada JV girls fall to Webb City
The Nevada Lady Tigers junior varsity basketball team made its return to Wynn Gymnasium Tuesday night, hoping to continue the momentum it gained in a 48-30 win over Warrensburg on Wednesday night, but that was simply not to be as the Webb City Lady Cardinals put a quick and emphatic stop to those efforts.
Despite tough defense from Nevada that lasted throughout the contest, Webb City's offense was simply too much for Nevada to handle, ultimately leading to a 34-29 victory for the visitors.
Though the Lady Tigers came out on the losing end, there was one substantial bright spot, however. Just as she did in the varsity game, Mikayla Bartlett made her return to playing at Wynn Gymnasium with substantial JV minutes.
On the floor at home for the first time in 671 days, Bartlett was excited at the opportunity, but at the same time, made a point of extending her thanks to those who have supported what turned out to be a long and arduous recovery from two knee surgeries.
"I want to thank everybody for the support," she said. "Coaches, teammates, fans. It's been great."
Nevada's freshman girls' squad was scheduled to be in action on the night as well, but that game was called off.
With the loss, the Lady Tigers fell to 8-5 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday, when they take back to the road to square off against Skyline. That contest is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m., at Skyline High School.
