Bronaugh boys fall to Everton at Golden City
GOLDEN CITY, Mo. -- Bronaugh's boys' basketball team fell in the consolation round to Everton, 56-48, Thursday, ending their run in the 58th annual Golden City Boys' Basketball Tournament.
A win would have propelled the Wildcats into the fifth place game on Friday night.
Instead, Everton will face Lockwood at 7 p.m. Lockwood was a 61-31 victor over the host school in the other consolation semifinals Thursday.
The Wildcats fell behind, 13-8, after the opening period, but pulled within one, at 17-16, at halftime by outscoring Everton, 8-4, in a low-offense second quarter.
Bronaugh stayed within striking distance in the third quarter as both teams warmed up for their best offensive output of the night. Everton was able to add a point to its lead with a 22-21 difference in the period to take a 39-37 lead, heading into the final period.
Bronaugh was unable to keep up the output and was outscored, 17-11, in the final frame.
Thomas Kerbs collected 12 points and Chance Wait added 11 to pace the Wildcats. Jacob Hendrix finished with nine, Bryce Whitworth seven, Justin Hudson five, and Parker Bott four.
