WALKER -- The Northeast Vernon County Knights and Lady Knights got back into action Tuesday night, hoping to get back on the winning track against the Panthers and Lady Panthers of Sheldon High School.

Things went well for the host Lady Knights, as they defeated Sheldon by a final score of 37-18. Camille Buttorff dominated the game for the Lady Knights, accounting for 24 of her teams 37 points.

Though Buttorff was the overwhelming offensive leader, a total of five players got into the scoring column for the Lady Knights. Amber Bogardus was a distant second to Buttorff with six points, followed by Tori Stutzman with three, and Karleigh Conner and Haley Hays with two apiece.

For Sheldon, Logan Lamb led the offensive effort with nine points. Kylie Seaton and Dani Hibbitts each had four and Destiny Shelton rounded out the scoring with one.

The Lady Knights got off to a quick start in the contest, taking a 12-6 lead after the first 8 minutes, and never looked back. Sheldon did win the second quarter, 5-2, but the Lady Knights were still ahead by three at 14-11, heading into the locker room at halftime.

As the second half began, that was when Buttorff really took over, lifting the Lady Knights to 13-6 advantage in the third quarter and a 10-1 edge in the fourth, ultimately allowing NEVC to put the game away. By the time all was said and done, Buttorff put up 16 of her 24 points in the contest's final 16 minutes.

In the boys' game, things didn't go nearly as well for the hosts as head coach Jeremy Barger's Knights only managed 24 points and Sheldon's high-powered offense took full advantage. By the time all was said and done, head coach Tyler Judd's squad took the victory by a final score of 58-24.

Zach Enochs led what turned out to be a very balanced Panthers offense in the contest as he finished the night with 12 points. He was joined in double figures by Micah Swanson, who finished the contest with 10 -- all in the first half.

Reed Worsley and Corey Baney added seven points apiece, while Trenton Heckadon had five. Christian Casey had four, while George Shelton finished with three and Nick Guerro, Jacob McCartney, Cody Hicks, Tristan Hart and Kaleb Martin each finished with two.

For NEVC, Tyrein Davis led the offensive effort with nine points, followed by Emmanuel Solis with six. Mitchell Longstreth finished with five, while Jared Hilvert rounded out the offense with four.

The contest never really was in question, as the Panthers jumped out to a 22-5 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back. Both offenses slowed in the second quarter, but the Panthers still tacked on nine points to NEVC's two, to take a 31-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Panthers came out just as strong in the second half as they did in the first, winning the third quarter, 20-10. Things went much better in the final period for the hosts as they worked their way to a 7-7 tie, but it was too little, too late and Sheldon cruised to the 34-point victory.

Next on the schedule for Sheldon is Thursday, when they return home to take on Miami. The first game on the schedule that night is set to tip off at 5:30 p.m., at Sheldon High School.

For NEVC, the next contest on the schedule is set for Friday, when the Knights and Lady Knights head back out on the road to take on Calhoun. The first game on that night's schedule is set to tip off at 5:30 p.m., at Calhoun High School.
