Bronaugh splits tournament games
LIBERAL, Mo. --Bronaugh's girls stayed alive in the consolation round of the annual Tony Dubray Classic Tournament, prevailing over Golden City Wednesday night, 45-32, in the loser's bracket.
Bronaugh was due to play Northeast Friday night, for the consolation championship, but those results were not available at press time. Northeast was a 56-20 winner over the Crest girls in the upper bracket consolation round.
Bronaugh's boys dropped a narrow, 45-43, decision to Thomas Jefferson, placing them in Friday's seventh-place game, against Golden City. Thomas Jefferson and Crest, who beat Golden City, 65-52, Wednesday, were to meet in the boys' consolation final.
The Lady Wildcats took control early of their game against Golden City, setting the pace with a 14-3 edge at the first break. Golden City got some of that deficit back by outscoring Bronaugh, 14-9, in the second period for a 23-17 margin, at halftime.
The Lady Wildcats maintained the lead in the third quarter, matching points with Golden City, as each team connected for 11.
Bronaugh stayed steady in the fourth, getting 11 more points, while holding its opponent to seven to secure the victory.
Martell Moore led a balanced scoring attack for the winners, finishing with 11 points. Sierra Arens added eight, Amanda Raper six, Courtney Conner five, Lora Shaw four, Cydnee Piper three, and Taylor Stratford, Katey Rider, Heather Baker, and Mandy Murphy two.
Georgette Brubaker paced Golden City with 14 points.
