Nevada JV boys defeat Butler in tournament play
EL DORADO SPRINGS -- The Nevada Tigers junior varsity basketball team got back into action in the El Dorado Springs Tournament Wednesday night, posting one of their strongest performances of the season.
Head coach Kyle Talley's Tigers beat the Butler Bears by a final score of 41-37. Derek O'Dell led the offensive effort for the Tigers with 14 points, followed by Brett Mitchell with eight.
"Derek O'Dell played very well and very smart," Talley said. "Brett Mitchell shot the ball well."
With the win, the Tigers will move on to play for the consolation championship Thursday. That contest is set to tip off at 5 p.m., at El Dorado Springs High School.
"I was very proud of the entire group," Talley said. "We were able to run some clock and handle the ball late, with the lead.
"We also made free throws when they counted. We worked on handling it with the lead at the previous practice and they executed that very well tonight."
