Nevada seventh-grade boys sweep Carthage
CARTHAGE -- The Nevada Middle School seventh-grade boys' basketball teams took to the road Monday night and came home from Carthage Middle School with a sweep.
Head coach Robert Miner's A team opened the night with a strong performance in a 49-24 victory. Carter Swearingen led the offensive effort for Nevada in that contest with 18 points, while Matt Thompson added nine.
On the defensive side, Swearingen finished the night with seven rebounds, while Coletan Shepard and Kayden Ast each had three steals.
In the B game, Nevada didn't have nearly as easy a time, but still ultimately completed the sweep, edging Carthage by the slimmest of margins in a 30-29 victory. Jayden Ast led the offensive effort for Nevada in that contest with 12 points, while Gabe Barnes added seven.
On the defensive side, Trent Pryor had five rebounds and Ast added four steals.
With the win, Miner's A team improved to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in league play this season. The B team is 6-0 overall and 4-0 in league play.
Next on the schedule for Miner's squad is Tuesday, when the Tigers take on Seneca at home. Tipoff in the first game on that night's schedule is set for 4:30 p.m., at the Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center weather permitting.
