FFA soliciting items for auction fundraiser

The Nevada FFA Booster Club is holding its third annual consignment auction fundraiser on February 22 at the Vernon County Youth Fairgrounds. Bidding will begin at 10 a.m. at the Vernon County Youth Fairgrounds.
Money from the auction will help FFA members pay fo trips and activities, and for college scholarships to members pursing careers in agriculture.
Charlie Comstock, booster club vice president, said that the consignment auction is the organization's main fundraiser. Members of the public can bring items to the auction for sale. The booster club only takes a 10 percent commission fee, with a $200 cap per item.
Items that do not sell will not be charged a no-sale fee.
Individuals who are interested in donating all profits from their auction items may do so, but that is not required.
Farm supplies, machinery, tools, household items, hay, firewood and a variety of other items will be accepted for the auction. Comstock said that items would be accepted until the day of sale.
The booster club is not affiliated with the national FFA organization, and is made up of parents and community members who support local FFA members.
In its first year, the auction raised around $10,000 for scholarships. Five FFA members -- Ben Walker, Cale Comstock, Klay Beisly, Lauren Young and Spencer Scotten -- all received scholarships for college tuition assistance. Comstock said that the scholarship applicants must have certain qualifications and go through an interview process.
The FFA Booster Club will host several other fundraising events later this spring, including a judging contest in March, a cattle prospect show in March and a swine, sheep and goat prospect show in May.
