Father-Daughter Dance Saturday

"I'd like to encourage everyone to buy their tickets before the dance. That way they won't have to stand in line and will be able to enjoy everything," Dana Redburn, Nevada parks and recreation director said Tuesday.
Redburn said that as of Tuesday 39 tickets for the Second Annual Father-Daughter Dance, which is set for Feb. 8, had been sold.
She said tickets for the dance are $5 and are only required for the man, who can bring as many "daughters" as he would like.
And they do not have to be his real daughters -- they can be a relative or friend.
Plus there is no age limit to attend the dance. Last year the young ladies who attended ranged in age from several months old to grown women who brought their father to the dance, she said.
She said it is important for every little girl to feel special.
Redburn said a lot of people had asked what will be done if there is another heavy snow.
"We will postpone it," she said, adding that Feb. 22 would be a possible date.
This year Redburn said they are starting a new tradition by giving each of the young ladies attending a charm. This year because the dance will have a star theme, the charm will be a star.
"We want to give them something to remember the special occasion," she said.
This year she said there would also be a place where attendees can check in their coats.
Like last year's dance Redburn said that community volunteers will play a large part in making this dance a success.
Marlene Scotten has volunteered to be the disc jocky for the dance Redburn said, adding that she is very good at getting everyone involved.
Amy Daughtery will operate one photo booth to take formal photographs.
Redburn said they would also have a booth to take fun pictures of the couples, with some of the accessories that Pete Schmidt from the Community Council on the Performing Arts provided. All of the photographs will be available at no charge.
She said that the Thalias are taking care of providing the cookies for the dance and a local sorority will serve the refreshments.
Redburn said this year there is a new group of volunteers who will be there -- several of the newest members of the Nevada Police Department. They have volunteered to be available as a dance partner if needed. And to show they are good guys and not people to be afraid of.
She said they do not know how many people to expect, but is hoping for a repeat of last year when around 400 showed up, when they were expecting 100. At least 70 young ladies picked out dresses at "Dressin For Dad" two weeks ago.
"I would like to see it grow to where we have to move it to a different location," Redburn said.
