Hunters and anglers should prepare to renew permits for the start of the 2014 hunting and fishing seasons.
The Missouri Department of Conservation has announced that all 2013 hunting and fishing permits will expire on March 1. Many permits for small game, general fishing, trout fishing and combination hunting and fishing permits are among those that must be renewed annually.
Hunting and fishing permits for 2014 are effective March 1 through Feb. 28, 2015.
Permits can be purchased online, through the Missouri Department of Conservation website, over the phone with mail delivery, or in person, at a local permit vendor. Permits purchased online can be saved and printed again, if accidentally destroyed.
Upcoming seasons include trout season and spring turkey season. Opening day of trout season at Missouri trout parks is set for March 1, at four parks: Meramec Spring Park, Montauk State Park, Bennett Spring State Park and Roaring River State Park.
Spring turkey season opens April 21.
This year, the Missouri Department of Conservation has modified its spring hunting equipment regulations, allowing turkey hunters to use crossbows or atlatls. Turkey hunters interested in participating in this year's managed turkey hunts have until Feb. 28, to submit an application.
