Five injured in weekend accident

Five Kansas residents were injured in a Sunday afternoon accident in Vernon County.
According to an accident report from the Missouri Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 1:28 p.m. on Highway 54 at the intersection of County Road 100.
Trooper J.W. Krehbiel reported that a Ford Explorer driven by Ashton Holtz, 19, of Topeka, Kan., failed to yield after stopping and pulled into an oncoming Chevrolet 1500 driven by Edward L. Hall, 37, of Fort Scott, Kan.
Three passengers in Hotlz's vehicle were taken to Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott for injuries. Andrew Sheriff, 24, of Fort Scott, and Hope Sheriff, 22, of Fort Scott were both treated for moderate injuries. Neither was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Faith Thomas, 20, of Topeka, sustained minor injuries.
Hall and passenger Edward Hall, 15, of Fort Scott received minor injuries from the collision. Both were treated at Mercy Hospital.
Both vehicles suffered extensive damage and were towed from the scene.
