Area sports postponed

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Thanks to the latest batch of rain and snow to move through the region Sunday into early Monday, a number of local sporting events that were scheduled to take place Monday were postponed.

The Nevada R-5 School District was hit hardest by the weather, as three high school baseball games and one middle school event were called off. The three high school games were a varsity/JV doubleheader between the Tigers and Carl Junction, and a freshman game between the Tigers and El Dorado Springs.

No make-up date had been announced for any of those contests, as of Monday evening.

The Nevada Middle School track team was also scheduled to compete at Carl Junction Monday, but that meet was called off. Nevada Middle School assistant principal and athletic director Chris Holcomb said the meet will be made up at 4 p.m., Wednesday, at Carl Junction.

Also on the list of cancellations was a baseball/softball doubleheader between Northeast Vernon County and Hume, as well as a baseball/softball doubleheader between Sheldon and Bronaugh. No make-up dates for either of those contests have been announced.
