Farmers market to sprout up in new spot

The Vernon County Farmer's Market will be changing locations for its second harvest season.
Farmers' Market board treasurer Kelly Ast said construction near the original location at Earp Park would affect set up and parking for this year's market season. That issue encouraged the market board to seek out a new location.
The market will now set up in a parking lot at the intersection of Austin and Cedar street, tucked behind Rinehart Jewelry and Iguana Azul. The new location will allow the market to remain visible and easily accessible to potential shoppers.
Ast said the two market locations differed greatly, and that the new location will impact setup and the feel of the market.
At the new spot, vendors will be able to pull into the parking lot and sell items directly from their vehicles, though they will still be encouraged to set up tables and tents. At Earp Park, vendors had to carry produce and items to a booth. The pull-in option will make it easier for vendors to quickly set up before the market opens.
"After the 2014 season, we'll see what works better for vendors," she said. "I don't see how the new location will impact the market negatively. I think it's going to be OK."
One perk to the location move, Ast said, is partnering with nearby businesses to share the lot space and host events.
"I think this will be more successful. It's all about partnerships," she said.
The market board is working to narrow in on a permanent setting for the market for following seasons. The 2014 season is set to kick off May 3.
