Bronaugh baseball edges NEVC, 11-10

BRONAUGH -- Bronaugh's baseball team slipped past Northeast Vernon County, 11-10, behind a four-run seventh-inning rally Tuesday afternoon.
Northeast Vernon County had taken a 2-1 lead at the end of the first inning, then expanded that with a five-run second. The Knights added three more in the third, but the Wildcats managed two of their own.
That still left NEVC with a 10-3 advantage.

But the home team started closing the gap, first pushing across a run in the fifth, then two more in the sixth, to get within four, at 10-6, setting up the rally.
The Knights opened the game with a one-out single by Drue Hoagland. Then, Mitchell Longstreth managed a two-out walk before Ty Davis doubled to plate both runs.
The Wildcats' Joe Mader walked, stole second and stole home to put his team on the board.

In the second, Trenton Rader walked and Emmanuel Solis reached on an error, then moved up on a passed ball. Michael Weisensee was hit by a pitch before Hoagland reached and Longstreth doubled, followed by a double by Davis, before a strikeout ended the frame. That left Rader, Solis, Weisensee, Hoagland and Longstreth crossing the plate.
In the third, Cordell Maus walked and stole second, then moved to third on a passed ball. Trenton Rader was hit by a pitch. With one out, Weisensee tripled for two runs and eventually scored on a single by Taylor Highfill.
But that would end the scoring for NEVC, as Bronaugh pitcher Joe Mader settled down and struck out the side in the fourth and fifth innings.
He allowed two hits in the sixth -- a double by Longstreth and a single by Davis -- before issuing a walk to Jayce Vantellman to load the bases. But he got a strikeout to end the threat, then fanned two more in the seventh and added a groundout after a walk.
The Wildcats got two in the third as Reece Mader was hit by a pitch and Chance Wait walked. A double by Parker Norman plated both runs.
In the fifth, Joe Mader singled. Reece Mader walked and Joe Mader scored on a single by Wait. Longstreth struck out the side to end the threat.
In the sixth, Gabe McIntire reached on an error, stole second and third and scored on Joe Mader's single. Reece Mader and Chance Wait followed with singles to score Joe Mader. A walk to Koltin Earnest loaded the bases, but Longstreth got a strikeout to end the threat -- his third in the frame.
The seventh-inning rally started with two outs. Parker Bott reached on an error, as did Jacob Hendrix and Joe Mader before Reece Mader was hit by a pitch.
Wait drew a walk, Earnest reached. Norman drew a walk, then Justin Hudson was hit by a pitch, to force in the winning run.
Joe and Reece Mader, Wait, Bott and Hendrix all scored in the inning.
Bronaugh plays at Montrose Tuesday, while NEVC hosts Sheldon Wednesday.
