Area sporting events postponed
Thanks to multiple rounds of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms that moved through the region Wednesday night into Thursday, several area high school athletics events were postponed.
In total, three area schools were affected by Thursday's cancellations. Nevada was hit hardest, as athletic director John McNeley was forced to call off two different events and move another.
The two cancellations for Nevada were a boys' golf match at El Dorado Springs and a boys' tennis match against Monett, at Nevada. No make-up dates were announced for either of those events, as of Thursday night.
Next on the schedule for head coach Clayton Wheeler's Nevada Tigers tennis squad is Friday, when the Tigers head back out on the road to take on Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School, weather permitting. Head coach Brian Leonard's golf team is scheduled to be back on Monday, when the Tigers host El Dorado Springs and Butler, at the Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course, weather permitting.
Also on the list of cancellations for Thursday was a baseball/softball doubleheader between Northeast Vernon County and Hume. Those contests will not be rescheduled.
Next on the schedule for the Lady Knights is at 4 p.m., Friday, when they head back out on the road to take on Osceola, while the Knights are off until Tuesday, when they host Montrose, at 4:30 p.m.
Hume's softball team will be back in action in the Class 1, District 15 Tournament at 5 p.m., Monday, against Lone Jack. The Hornets baseball squad is scheduled to be back in action at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, hosting the Panthers of Sheldon High School.
