All-GVVC baseball selections announced

Coaches from the Golden Valley Vernon County Conference announced their selections for this year's All-Conference baseball team Thursday.

Sheldon High School led the conference with five selections to this year's team, followed by Northeast Vernon County and Bronaugh with three apiece. Ballard and Montrose each earned two All-Conference nods.

Of the five selections the Panthers earned, three are seniors and the other two are juniors. This year's selections include seniors Corey Baney, Reed Worsley and Zach Enochs, and juniors Brandon Kirbey and Micah Swanson.

For Northeast Vernon County, all three selections are juniors. Those juniors are Taylor Highfill, Drue Hoagland and Mitchell Longstreth.

Bronaugh had one junior, Reece Mader, one senior, Chance Wait, and one freshman, Joe Mader, selected to this year's team. Ballard's honorees were junior James Englehardt and senior Patrick Sickels, while Montrose seniors Garrett Wade and Nolan Preston rounded out this year's selections.

Four of those five teams are scheduled to open district tournament play next week, as Bronaugh, Sheldon Northeast Vernon County and Ballard begin the Class 1, District 7 Tournament on May 16. Drexel earned the top seed in the tournament, followed by Sheldon, NEVC, Bronaugh, Ballard and Hume.

Sheldon and Drexel both received first-round byes, advancing directly to the semifinals on May 19, while the remaining schools play first-round games on May 16.
