Council finalizes performer contracts

The Nevada City Council finalized the city's pledge to cover a portion of the cost of bringing entertainment to Nevada for the 50th Bushwhacker Days Celebration when it voted unanimously to approve two ordinances, one, appropriating $5,000, from the city's motel tax, to cover the cost of engaging David Phelps as the headline performer for the Wednesday June 11 Gospel Night. The second ordinance appropriated $15,000, also from the motel tax, to cover part of the $22,000 fee to have Crystal Gayle perform Saturday, June 14, during Bushwhacker Days.

In other business the council:

* Voted 5-0, to accept the low bid of $11,505.25 from SMC, Joplin for a FortiGate 600C firewall for the city's data network to replace the existing firewall that would no longer be supported in 2015.

* Voted 5-0, to accept the best bid from Missouri Telecom, Monett, of $48,910.25 for 11 Layer 3, POE+, 48 port 10G link Juniper switcher for the city's network.

* Voted 5-0, to accept the low bid of $8,178 from InetVision for 59 Yealink phones, 19 Model T48G, 35 of Model T42G and five cordless model W52P to replace the city's current phone system with a VoIP phone system.

*Voted 5-0, to accept the low bid of $6,329 from CDWG for a Tripp Lite SU12000RT4U 8,400 watt UPS backup power supply.

* Voted 5-0, to accept the best bid of $16,735.30 from Ferguson Waterworks for pipes, valves and hydrants for an emergency preparedness inventory.

* Voted 5-0, to approve the bid of $15,659.65 from Water Surplus.Com/Supply Management Inc., for reverse osmosis membranes for the city water treatment plant.

* Voted 5-0, to accept the bid of $98,304 from JCI Industries for the purchase of four mixing pumps for the city wastewater treatment plant.

* Voted 5-0, to accept an easement for the Cottey College waterline replacement project.

* Postponed consideration of the final plat and development agreement for Atlantic Estates until June 3.

* Voted 5-0, to accept the bid from U.S. Bancorp Government Leasing and Financing Inc., of 2.03 percent interest on financing the purchase of a skid steer, backhoe and the phone system upgrade. The total cost to be financed is $201,753, with an annual payment of $42,841.

* Voted 5-0, to approve increasing the water and sewer fund budget by $98,000 for the purchase of four mixing pumps for the wastewater treatment plant.

* Voted 5-0 to pass on second reading a special ordinance approving the contract with APAC-Missouri Inc., of Springfield for the city's 2014 sales tax street improvements at a total cost of $290,977.20.

* Voted 5-0 to pass on second reading a special ordinance amending the Municipal Code by adopting the 2012 International Fire Code Series.

* Voted 5-0 to pass on second reading a special ordinance amending the Municipal Code by adopting the International Building Code, international Residential Code and the International Property Maintenance Code to the 2012 Series.

* Voted 5-0 to pass on first reading a special ordinance amending the Municipal Code by adopting the 2011 National Electrical Code.

* Voted 5-0 to pass on first reading a special ordinance amending the Municipal Code by adopting the 2012 International Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas Codes.
