Recognizing emergency medical service providers
Friday, May 30, 2014
Local emergency medical services personnel joined with their counterparts and the public during Emergency Medical Services Week that concluded last week, May 18-24.
National Emergency Medical Services Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's "front line."
The EMS Week celebrations are held in conjunction with National Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Day, May 21. The theme of this year's EMS Week, "Dedicated. For Life," focuses on the commitment and dedication of the 750,000 EMS providers who provide an essential community service every day.
Throughout EMS Week, state and local planners held activities honoring paramedics, emergency medical technicians, first responders, fire fighters, and the police.
The EMS providers educate the public about injury prevention, safety awareness, and medical emergencies. The American College of Emergency Physicians sponsors EMS Week. Organizational sponsors include The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Emergency Medical Services for Children program.
This is a good time to recognize the important role of these providers and say thanks to our local emergency personnel for their efforts that cover every day and every time. We appreciate his selfless commitment to others that is demonstrated time and again when we need help.
