Youth Fair Rodeo will rope in crowd this weekend

The Vernon County Youth Fair Rodeo is set to kick off Thursday night. The rodeo, which returns for its 23rd year, will run through Saturday, with each night's events beginning at 8, rain or shine.
Barnes & Sons Rodeo Company out of Tahlequah, Okla., will provide stock for the event as part of its Freedom Train Tour.
Wayne Barnes, rodeo company owner, said events this year will include a variety of calf and breakaway roping competitions, steer wrestling, barrel racing and bull riding.
Tickets will be sold in advance through fair royalty candidates until noon Thursday for $6. Attendees can also purchase tickets at the gate for $8.
Royalty crowning will take place Saturday, with the 2014 queen and princess winners crowned by last year's queen Taylor Gundy and princess Payton Brooks.
2014 queen candidates are Hanna Bates, 16, and Shelby Gundy, 17. Princess candidates for this year's rodeo are Addie Burgess, 13; Jocelyn Davis, 14; Sami Fine, 13; Taylor Robinson, 13; Haley Toland, 13; and Jade Turner, 13.
