The Nevada Griffons baseball team scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning and edged the MINK League North Division-leading St. Joseph Mustangs, 4-3, Sunday night, at Lyons Stadium.

Griffons right fielder Daniel Midyett started the scoring with his first home run of the season in the second inning and the Mustangs tied the game with a run in the fourth before taking the lead with two more in the fifth. Nevada scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings and plated the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Taylor Love led off the eighth inning with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Midyett and scored the winning run on a single by Kurt Becker. Love, Midyett, Becker and Jordan Taylor each finished the contest with two hits to help the Griffons move over the .500 mark, at 13-12, with the win.

Nevada currently sits at 10-12 in MINK League play.

Addison Russ got the start on the mound for the Griffons and allowed three runs -- two were earned -- on seven hits with three strikeouts in seven innings of work. Despite that strong performance, however, Russ didn't ultimately factor into the decision.

Jared Keating pitched a scoreless eighth inning and finished with one strikeout to take the victory before Aaron Barteau worked around a lead-off single by St. Joseph's Kyle Richards in the top of the ninth to earn his third save of the season.

Ryker Fox went 7 1/3 innings on the mound for the Mustangs, allowing four runs -- three earned -- on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks to take the loss. The Mustangs lead the MINK League North Division with a 14-8 record in League play and St. Joseph is 20-9, overall.

The Griffons were scheduled to be back in action Monday, heading back out on the road to take on the Joplin Outlaws before returning home Tuesday, to make up Saturday's rained out game against Chillicothe.
