Schell City helps pay for electric upgrades

Schell City Board of Aldermen donated $200 to help pay for the $1,000 project to increase voltage on downtown utility poles for the Schell City Fall Festival at its meeting July 2.
Community Betterment member Doug Vantellman also told the aldermen the group's expenses so far on the festival were $1,518.65.
In other business, clerk Erin Lee said weed and mowing letters had been sent out to several property owners.
"Some have been mowed to our satisfaction," she said in her report. "The remainder will be mowed by the city and billed to the property owners."
The aldermen also discussed properties needing to clean up items such as lumber with nails in it, debris, trash and trailers. Unlicensed vehicles on or near the roadways also need to be removed.
Lee said she would send out letters requesting clean up.
Street superintendent Jim Goodman requested gravel and possibly concrete to repair a hole in the road at the corner of Main and Second streets. He said he would take care of the pothole as soon as possible.
In other business, Lee said the town's former trash pickup company wants to bill the town $5 for each trash cart they picked up after the change to a new company.
"There was no contract signed or verbal agreement made on this type of charge," she said. "I was notified the day before they picked them up about the $5 fee, which would equal $420."
The aldermen agreed the fees are not the town's responsibility because there was no previous agreement and residents had been paying for the use of the carts for several years.
Lee will draft a letter refusing to pay the charge.
Lee added she would be looking into a different plan for printing utility bills because the cost of the printing and Nevada News misprinted the bills last month.
