The Bushwhacker Museum is scheduled to host baseball historian, author and speaker Phil Dixon July 13.
Dixon, co-founder of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, will present "The Kansas City Monarchs in our Hometown."
"Most people have heard of Jackie Robinson, some have heard of Satchel Paige, many have heard of the Kansas City Monarchs," Dixon said.
In an effort to honor the Kansas City Monarch's 90th anniversary of the team's first world championship in 1924, Dixon is traveling to 90 cities where they played games to present the team's history. Dixon plans to speak about the games the Monarchs competed in Nevada.
"It's a tribute tour, a goodwill visit done with sports history," Dixon said. "It is a 30 to 45 minute PowerPoint presentation with stories and baseball poetry.
Dixon is the author of several books about baseball and the Negro Leagues, including Wilber "Bullet" Rogan and the Kansas City Monarchs. He was one of five co-founders of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in 1990.
The event is free and open to the public, and begins at 2 p.m. at the Bushwhacker Museum. Those who attend Sunday's program will be offered a free pass to the Nevada Griffons Sunday night home game against the Branson Nationals at Lyons Stadium.
