Schell City clerk Erin Lee expressed concern about the switch over date to connect to Consolidated Public Water Service District No. 1 of Vernon County to provide the town with water.
"I haven't heard anything more about the water project," Lee told the Schell City Board of Aldermen at its meeting Wednesday. "We need to do this before winter so we can tell if there are leaks. I ordered chlorine because we had to use the chlorinator for another month."
A $145,000 grant, as well as a $266,000 loan, is being used to pay for a new 300,000-gallon water tower, a new well house, construction of 9 miles of transmission line from the new well to the new tower and more than 7 miles of transmission line from the tower to Schell City, an aerator and electronic controls necessary for connecting to CPWSD No. 1. A master meter and pressure-reducing valve will be installed at the Schell City connection.
The district will serve an additional 147 customers through the Schell City connection. The switch over date has yet to be determined, and the old tower remains.
To prepare for the Schell City Fall Festival, the mayor and aldermen instructed Lee to write speeches and handle award money for citizen of the year and lawn of the year.
"We've awarded citizens of the year $25 for the past two years," Lee said. "This year we chose two people, and I am of the opinion they should both get $25 because we decided it should be two people."
The aldermen agreed to grant $25 per citizen of the year.
In other business, Lee asked the aldermen about attending a $90 training for city clerks in Urich, Mo. The aldermen approved the training.
In a special meeting Aug. 19, the aldermen set the tax levy at 82 cents per $100 assessed valuation, the same as last year.
