In a home match Tuesday afternoon, the Nevada girls' tennis team was stymied by Kansas City O'Hara, losing 7-2.

Nevada head coach, Samantha Short, said during the match she felt Nevada was playing well, but making small mistakes.

"The(O'Hara) girls' are just capitalizing on them," she said. "It's nothing major and it's nothing that we can't fix. We've come a long ways in the last three of four games that we've played.

"Against this team two weeks ago, we would have been lucky to have gotten anything on the board. So I think we're advancing."

In No. 1 singles play, Nevada's Megan Payne dropped Chloe Higinbotham, 8-6.

Tigers No. 2, Sydnie Baker, was defeated by Grace Brage, 8-4.

Nevada's Ellie Pruitt was edged by Olivia Crabtree in tiebreaker set, 8-8 (5-7).

Nevada freshman Emma Cheaney, dealt defeat to Emily Tierney, winning 8-4.

"Emma came in as a freshman and has done a really good job," Short said."

In her match, Nevada's Courtney Smith fell just short, losing to Margaret Baldwin, 8-6.

Tigers Jaiden Cherry, tumbled in her match against Bailey Tousley, 8-3.

Despite the setback, Short said she has been impressed with Cherry's recent play.

In doubles play, Nevada's top team of Payne and Pruitt were defeated by Higinbotham/Brage 4-8.

Baker and Smith lost in a tie-breaker set to Crabtree/Baldwin 8-8 (5-7). And Cherry and Cheaney fell 8-5.
