The Nevada Middle School Seventh and Eighth Grade Science Expo got underway Tuesday, with the set up of projects from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Nevada Middle School lobby. The fair will end Monday, Sept. 29, with an awards assembly at 2 p.m. in the gym.

Students can choose to enter projects in either the "traditional" Science Fair or the Science Exhibit. Science Fair projects include testing a hypothesis. These projects are judged for prizes.

Science Exhibit entries will display a demonstration or subject matter related to science and will not be judged. All Science Expo entries are worth extra credit to students participating.

Science Fair judging will take place on today and Thursday, during the day, and parent viewing for all projects is Thursday evening from 5 to 6.

During the awards assembly on Monday, trophies, medals and ribbons will be awarded to category winners, best of show, and special awards entries in the Science Fair.

Science Fair categories include Botany/Zoology, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Earth Science, Consumer Science, General Science, Medicine & Health, Physical Science, and Technology & Inventions. Special awards may include Most Creative, Most Environmentally Friendly, Most Healthy Tips, Best Use of Technology, Super Slick, and Science Safety.

There are also four awards given in honor of former Nevada Middle School science teachers: Joe Olive, Levon Haller, Janet Guthrie, and Larry Hurst.

The Science Fair is sponsored by the Nevada Rotary Club. Category winners and the best of show will receive prizes from Rotary.

The Nevada Middle School science teachers involved with the project include Angie Landoll, eighth grade; Amanda Pollock, seventh and eighth grade; and Rachel Fast, seventh grade.
