The Nevada Infrastructure Com-mittee spent an hour Wednesday evening going over listings of Nevada streets that are in need of work and is getting close to having a final list of projects to send to the city council for final approval.
"I'd really like to see us do the rest of Jefferson Street -- about two blocks. We already did the block with a deep ditch," committee chairman Jack Bastow, said before the committee voted unanimously to recommend the 100 block of North Jefferson and the 100 block of South Jefferson.
Other streets approved by the committee Wednesday include: 1000-1400 blocks of East Walnut; 200-400 blocks of North Elizabeth; 700 block of West Burton; 1000 and 1100 blocks of South Elizabeth; 700 block of Park Hill; 700 block of West South; and Hillcrest in Valley Hi.
These projects total about $430,000, which comes from a one-half cent transportation sales tax that is re-authorized by Nevada voters every five years. The sales tax generates about $700,000 each year, of which $500,000 is earmarked for new street construction. The remainder of the money goes for other street work, such as crack sealing and the annual sealing program that is used to extend the life of streets that do not need to be replaced.
The committee will meet next at 6 p.m., Oct. 8, in the council chambers in the Public Safety Building.
