Nevada earns hardware at Clinton tournament
The Nevada Tigers volleyball team swept through the Clinton volleyball tournament over the weekend, winning five straight matches on their way to a first place finish.
"It is really nice to be playing this well at the end of the season as we are heading into districts," Nevada coach Ashley Thoreson said. "Next Thursday will be senior night and also a big game against K.C. O'Hara, who is seeded second in districts. We have the No. 3 seed, with Pleasant Hill taking the No. 1 seed."
Nevada (20-9) opened the tournament by trouncing Raytown South 25-15, 25-17. They then took out Harrisonville 25-23, 25-15.
In their third game, they cruised to victory over Oak Grove 25-12, 25-17.
The Tigers stayed red hot in the semifinals, blasting past Bolivar in the first set 25-14, and then taking the second set 25-19.
In the championship game, Nevada again matched up against Oak Grove, coming out on top 25-16, 25-21, to take the crown.
For the tournament, Rilie Good led all Tigers with 37 kills and 10 blocks.
Lexie Overton hit the deck and came up with 48 digs.
Morgan McNeley made an impact with 62 assists and 10 aces.
Nevada again hits the road, this time to face K.C. Center, Today at 5 p.m.
