Orville Eugene Summers
Orville Eugene Summers, 86, of Nevada, Mo., passed from this life Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, at the Moore-Few Care Center, in Nevada, after a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 22, 1928, in Vernon County, the son of Winson Leroy and Ida (Maddox) Summers. On Jan. 30, 1951, he was united in marriage to Yukie (Suzuki) Summers, in Japan, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 2013.
After Orville's school years he joined the U.S. Army, serving our country from 1946 to 1954. It was while serving that he met and married his wife, the love of his life. After his military duties were fulfilled the couple made San Francisco, Calif., their home. Orville worked as a self-employed carpenter until his retirement in 1994.
While living in California, Orville served as Commander of the Nissan VFW, a position of which he was very proud. They moved to Missouri after retirement and made Vernon County their home for the rest of their lives. Orville and Yukie loved to travel and spend time with their many friends. He also enjoyed his association with Ducks Unlimited.
Survivors include two sisters, Betty Ferguson and Peggy Hedgburg, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; cousins, Dean and Clela Pullin, of Nevada; along with many other cousins living away from this area. Aside from his wife Yukie, Orville was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Allen Summers.
Family and friends will gather at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, at Newton Burial Park, in Nevada, for military funeral honors for Orville, along with committal of Orville and Yukie's cremains.
