Nevada High School art students design chairs for charity

How did you get the idea for the chair-ity auction project?
The Chair-ity Auction is sponsored by the Fort Scott Community College Gordon Parks Museum. All proceeds will go to youth programming at the Gordon Parks Museum.
What is the purpose of the project?
To get my students involved in a service project. I want my students to know that there are people in the community who enjoy the artwork of others.
Who was involved?
The students involved were juniors and seniors who are enrolled in the advanced art class at NHS.
How long did it take, what did it consist of, and how did you/the students put this together?
It took the students approximately four weeks to complete the project during school class time. They started with sketches of how they would redo their chairs. From there, the students found chairs to recover, refinish, and paint.
Have you/the students done similar projects and if so, what were they?
This is the second chair-ity auction. One student and I participated in 2012. They enjoyed our chairs and asked us if we would be interested in providing chairs for the benefit again this year.
Anything else you'd like to share about this effort.
The Chair-ity Auction will be held at the Ellis Fine Arts Center located on the Fort Scott Community College campus Friday, Nov. 21.
