Martha Caroline Olive
Martha Caroline Olive, 67, of Nevada, Mo., passed from this life on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, at her home. She was born July 20, 1947, in Fort Scott, Kan., the daughter of Joe Cannon and Sophia Mildred (Ballinger) Olive.
Martha grew up along with her sisters and parents on the family farm in the Metz area. She graduated from Metz High School Class of 1966. Shortly after graduation she moved to Fort Scott where she began employment with Mercy Hospital in the Dietary Department. She worked that job the entire rest of her working years until retirement.
Martha was a longtime member of the Rinehart Christian Church. She spent much time as a "Prayer Warrior" praying by herself or with others for the good of all. She loved her Lord and Savior with all of her being, serving and praising Him every day of her life. In earlier years she sang with the "Sweet Adeline's." Another of her great passions was her love of horses, both riding and caring for them. In recent years she enjoyed spending time with her dear neighbors -- playing yard games and eating popcorn.
Survivors include her mother, Sophia Olive, of Nevada; two sisters, Mary Jo Nichols and James, of Lamar, and Marita Ann Signer, of Chicago, Ill.; and nieces and nephews, Tara Aesquivel and Dakota, Lauren Nichols, and Sam and Sarah Signer. She was preceded in death by both her maternal and paternal grandparents as well as her father, Joe.
Funeral services for Martha Caroline Olive are scheduled for 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 24, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with the Rev. Cecil Todd officiating. Interment will follow in the Pryor Creek Cemetery, in Metz. Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m., just prior to the service, also at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made in Martha's memory to the Pryor Creek Cemetery, the Juvenile Diabetes Association, or the Arthritis Foundation in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
