Cottey College announces new president
The Cottey College Board of Trustees and the Presidential Search Committee announced Friday the appointment of Cottey's 12th president, Doris A. Tegart, Ed.D. Dr. Tegart, president-designate, replaces Dr. Judy Rogers who is retiring after 10 years as president of Cottey. Tegart will assume the presidency on June 1, 2015.
Tegart has been the executive vice president and provost at Bellarmine University, Louisville, Ky. During her tenure, Tegart's focus has been to implement entrepreneurial ventures and growth strategies to achieve the university's goals, resulting in increased enrollment and increased full-time faculty.
During her 20-year tenure at Bellarmine, Tegart honed her leadership skills through a variety of senior-level positions including vice president for academic affairs, vice president and executive assistant to the president, and vice president for enrollment management. Additionally, with the constant focus on the oversight of all academic operations, Tegart coordinated student affairs, communications and public relations, instructional technology systems, strategic planning, as well as working with seven academic schools.
Tegart received a doctorate from Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., with concentrations in women's studies/administration and a post-doctorate leadership certificate from Harvard University (MLE). She received a Master of Science in education from Indiana University Southeast. She is currently enrolled in the Indiana University/Purdue University School of Philanthropy's The Fund Raising School Certificate Program. Dr. Tegart also participated in a yearlong introspective study titled the Vocation and the Presidency, a national program sponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges.
Among Tegart's chosen professional educational activities, she was selected as one of the Most Admired Women in Education by Today's Women Magazine in 2013; 55K Degrees board member through the Greater Louisville Chamber of Commerce; and a partnership with Eminence Independent Schools that resulted in a National School Board Award for Early College Entry Program in 2013.
Tegart best describes her leadership style as creative, collaborative, and proactive. She further describes herself as someone who is an open transparent communicator with a sense of humor. Her expertise and skills are academic programming, enrollment growth, and fundraising.
In addition to a liberal arts philosophy, Tegart's core belief is that a student-centered learning environment dedicated to providing academic and developmental growth is the key to a dynamic, holistic education for each student.

Dr. Rogers said, "From the moment I met Dr. Tegart, I recognized her dedication to higher education and her sincere interest in providing students an optimal learning environment. She will lead Cottey forward into a bright future."
Dr. Rogers has been the president of Cottey College since 2004. During her tenure, she guided the transformation of Cottey from a two-year associate degree granting college to a four-year college; completed a historic $40.4 million comprehensive campaign; and oversaw the planning and design for a new fine arts instructional building now under construction on the campus.
Cottey College is an independent, liberal arts and sciences college for women located in Nevada. Its residential student capacity of 350 typically represents 40 states and 20 countries. Cottey is owned by the P.E.O. Sisterhood, an international women's organization of more than 238,000 members, making Cottey the only nonsectarian college in the United States owned and supported by women for women.
