As the holiday season approaches, thoughts turn towards shopping and gift giving. Most children and teenagers wait anxiously to unwrap their new treasures.

However, for many families, the holidays present financial challenges and uncertainties, making purchasing presents quite the strain.

While various community organizations create and deliver food baskets or hold toy drives for young children, the Teen Angels project, coordinated by Corey M. Johnson of CMJ Financial Center, focuses on fulfilling the Christmas and winter wishes of teens ages 13-18.

Community Outreach provides the list of teens in need.

Now through Dec. 15, community members can "adopt" a teen by visiting CMJ Financial Center at 117 E. Cherry, in Nevada, to pick up an angel card, on which the teen's holiday wishes are written.

Because each teen has had the chance to share their Christmas dreams, every gift will be unique and specifically tailored towards that teen's needs and desires.

Donations to the cause, monetary and of new clothing, toiletries, etc., are also accepted and greatly appreciated, said Johnson.

Funds and donations received will go towards gifts to be distributed at the National Guard Armory in Nevada, Dec. 19, where Johnson welcomes community members to see the joy they've brought to teens this season.

In past years, some 130 bags, each with more than $200 worth of presents, were distributed.

"Because of the incredible generosity of individuals and businesses throughout the region, the Teen Angels project has been a tremendous success for many years now, and with the continued support of the community, 2014 will prove another amazing year," said Johnson.
