Lady Tigers earn first win
Nevada's girls opened the Carl Junction basketball tournament with a 66-14 victory over the Carl Junction junior varsity Monday night.
The Tigers (1-1), playing as the No. 1 seed, got the eighth-seeded JV to open the bracket. They will play Carthage, a 45-39 winner over Seneca in Monday's other game. That contest will be Thursday at 6 p.m.
Nevada built a 16-6 first-quarter lead and then blew open the game with a 23-point second quarter, while holding CJ to 2. That produced a 39-8 halftime advantage.
The Tigers put in 17 more in the third and held a 56-12 edge after three quarters. A 10-2 margin in the fourth closed it out.
Morgan McNeley connected for 15 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead a balanced NHS attack. Rilie Good added 14 points and Mikayla Bartlett 10 to reach double figures. Renee Cox chipped in seven, Megan Hold and Megan Payne 6 each, Chloe Bartlett 4, and Madi Culbertson and Jansen Miller 2.
