Sheldon teams edged by Montrose
Sheldon narrowly lost a pair of basketball outings Tuesday night, falling on the road to Montrose. The Panther girls were nipped 27-26 and the boys tumbled 66-57.
In the girls' game, it was a low scoring result in the first and fourth periods, with a total of seven points in each. Montrose had the edge in the first, 4-3, with Sheldon getting the edge in the fourth, by the same score.
Montrose had the better of it in the second period, for a 15-9 halftime difference. Sheldon had the third quarter at 13-9 to get within 24-22.
Logan Lamb connected for 10 points, Lindsey Turner for six, Amy Brzuchowski with five, Dani Hibbitts for three and Alycia Baney for two.
Montrose's girls improved to 2-1, while Sheldon was playing its first game.
In the boys' game, Montrose started strong behind a 24-point first quarter for a 24-19 lead.
After a 17-14 difference in the second, it was 41-33 at the half.
Sheldon got a point back behind a 12-11 difference in the third for a 52-45 margin after three. But the hosts had a 14-12 edge in the final frame to seal the outcome.
Micah Swanson fired in 24 points to lead the Panthers. Trenton Heckadon and Cody Hicks added 10, George Shelton seven, and Xavry Lamb, Jacob McCartney, and Kaleb Martin two.
Montrose, which got 30 points from Jacob Engeman, improved to 2-1 while it was Sheldon's first game.
