Donald R. Owens Jr.

Donald R. Owens Jr., 54, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Mayo Clinic, in Phoenix, Ariz.

He was born Sept. 12, 1960, in Nevada, Mo., the son of Donald Ray and Linda (Baker) Owens.

He graduated from Nevada High School in 1978.

Don joined Seaboard Foods nearly 15 years ago in March 2000, and served as Seaboard Foods Director of environmental resources, maintenance and construction, and he contributed significantly to the growth and success of Seaboard Foods.

Because of his integrity, leadership and friendship, it seems impossible to express in words how much he will be missed.

He was as member of the Liberal Country Club, a Trustee for the Seward County Community College/ Area Technical School Foundation and Saints Booster Club member at SCCC.

On Feb. 17, 1984, he married Judy (Stewart) Baker at Miami, Okla. She survives.

Other survivors include mother, Linda Owens, of Nevada; three sons, AJ Owens, of Wichita, Kan., Grady Owens, of Liberal, Kan., and Doug Baker, of Davis, Calif.; four daughters, Amanda Bearden Oronogo, Mo., Amy Owens, of Wichita, Kan., Huiqiong Lin, of Davis, Calif., and Holly Owens, of Liberal, Kan.; sister, Lisa Wittwer, of Portland, Ore.; niece, Alex Huppe, of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren, Randy Bearden, James Bearden, Nicole Bearden and Willard Owens; and numerous other family members in Nevada, Mo. He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, Jan. 12, at the First Southern Baptist Church, with Mike Riney presiding. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, at Brenneman Funeral Home, Liberal, with the family present to greet friends.

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorial contributions may be sent to the SCCC/ATS Foundation for Don Owens Memorial Scholarship or the United Way in care of Brenneman Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.
