Nevada wrestling team drops duel to Carthage

The Nevada Tigers varsity wrestling team was outscored by Carthage 57-18, Thursday night at home.

Nevada wrestling coach Devon White said he was happy with the way his squad battled.

"I thought we wrestled really well," he said. "The score doesn't show it. And even though we lost 57-18, if you came and watched the duel, you saw a lot of good wrestling and know how close it really was.

"Just about every match we wrestled was a tight match."

White said Carthage features a number of top-notch wrestlers.

"At 138, Cameron Diaz wrestled a really tough kid, Markell Moore," White said. "And in my opinion, wrestled really well. He was in the match, he was working take-downs. They both had good scrambles and were controlling their stuff and doing their thing. So I was very impressed with him."

White added that he was pleased with junior Chaden Brandt's performance. Brandt defeated Kale Vogt.

"He came out and hit a blast-double right off the whistle. So I'm happy with that," White said.

Nevada's Dayton Miller made quick work of Eli Lindsey.

"Dayton was really good in transition from move to move," White said. "His take-downs were really smooth."

113 pounds: Dakota Jones (Carthage) wins by forfeit.

120 pounds: Corben Pugh (Carthage) wins by forfeit.

126 pounds: Dayton Miller (Nevada) over Eli Lindsey (Carthage), (fall, 2:44).

132 pounds: Hunter Yust (Carthage) over Colton Shrewsbury (Nevada), decision, 5-0.

138 pounds: Markkel Moore (Carthage) over Cameron Diaz (Nevada), (fall, 4:46).

145 pounds: Tyler Harden (Carthage) over Trevor Olsen (Nevada), (fall, 3:19).

152 pounds: Seth Long (Carthage) over Cody Hansen (Nevada), (fall, 29 seconds).

160 pounds: Edxel Morales wins by forfeit.

170 pounds: Chaden Brandt (Nevada) defeats Kale Vogt (Carthage), (fall, 59 seconds).

182 pounds: Skyler Bloomer (Carthage) defeats Jacob Johnson (Nevada), decision 8-4.

195 pounds: Scott Swink (Nevada) wins by forfeit.

220 pounds: Michael Brietzke (Carthage) defeats Devon Harkrader (Nevada), (fall, 42 seconds).

Cale Potter (Carthage) wins by forfeit.

Next up for the NHS wrestling team, is the second part of the West Central Conference tournament, Jan. 20, at Center High School in Kansas City. The first match is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
