Fourth quarter turnovers doom Nevada
KANSAS CITY ----The Nevada Tigers boys basketball team fell to Kansas City O'Hara 55-45, in a Friday night West Central Conference clash.
"It was a great effort by our kids against a high quality team," Nevada head coach Shaun Gray said. "Unfortunately we didn't rebound well, and we did not handle their pressure late when we had a lead. We must improve in that area coming into the final stretch of the season."
With the scored knotted 45-45 with 3 minutes remaining in regulation, the Tigers turned the ball over on multiple possessions.
"We turned the ball over three straight possessions late in the fourth against their pressure ---- and they got layups out of it. We never recovered from that point on," Gray said.
For Nevada, point guard Matt Sommer scored a team-high 16 points while knocking down four triples. Shooting guard Brandon Barker ended the night with 11.
"Brandon played well early," Gray said. "In the second half, Matthew put us on his shoulders. We had an eight-point lead in the third. We did a great job limiting their star player Dezmond McDaniel, but (we allowed) offensive rebounds to hurt us."
