Father daughter dance an evening of magic

Saturday, February 14, 2015

And they kept coming.

Saturday night's annual father-daughter dance at the community center was well attended, very well attended, with over 600 participants.

A steady line was the norm as the event opened and that line continued for the first hour and a half of the three-hour event.

Dads, uncles, and grandfathers were there in all their regalia, from tuxes, to suits, to cowboy hats and shiny brass buckles, to a variety of chapeaus. Men came with daughters, granddaughters and nieces of all ages.

The youngest wasn't even walking. Dad came in carrying her in her car seat carrier. The oldest was in her mid 20s.

Dads showed up with multiple girls, one father escorting four daughters.

The girls were dressed to the nine's, with their finery, elegant, sparkly, and shiny, all a picture of smiles. Several had their best tiaras on.

Those attending were greeted with plenty of appropriately colored and flavored sweets, the opportunity to have a free picture made in their best getup, and an evening geared to these special relationships.

The dance floor was packed, the music diverse from country to pop, with Taylor Swift's "Shake It Up" getting some of the most enthusiastic movements.

This was the third year for the event and the Community Center looked spiffy and boasted fun and friendliness.

The cost for the dads, $5, no matter how many girls were along, with free pictures and refreshments, made the event affordable for all.

And while there were plenty of smiles to go around, the positive message went a long way to bolster the connections between the generations and building and maintaining a positive self-image and confidence.

If you missed this year's dance, don't miss the next one. It's one of the best highlights of the social scene in Nevada.
