Donald Lee Gordon
Donald Lee Gordon, 85, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at Freeman West Hospital, in Joplin, Mo., following a brief illness. Donald was born Feb. 13, 1930, in Nevada, Mo., to James W. and Audrey L. (Duncan) Gordon. He was united in marriage to Della M. Weakley on Aug. 19, 1951, in Nevada, Mo., and she survives of the home.
Donald grew up in Nevada and attended Nevada schools graduating from Nevada High School Class of 1947. He served his country in the United States Army in occupied Germany from 1952 until 1954. At that time, Donald returned to Nevada where he worked as a self-employed carpenter and at the late Nevada State Hospital as a carpenter until his retirement.
Following his retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife Della in their motor home throughout the United States. Donald was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion in Nevada, and the Nevada VFW.
In addition to his wife, Della, survivors include three children, Pam Hartley and her husband, Larry, Haysville, Kan., Janice Webb and her husband, Scott, Nevada, and Dave Gordon, Springfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Jack Gordon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call from now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made in his memory to the Nevada Senior Center in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
