Nevada Daily Mail
GRANDVIEW ---- The Nevada Tigers golf team has punched its ticket to Monday's sectional tournament.
Nevada earned its way there, finishing in second-place at Monday's nine-team Class 3 District 7 tournament at Grand Summit Golf and Country Club in Grandview. The top two teams earned automatic bids into the sectional tournament.
Nevada finished in second-place with a team-score of 330, while Warrensburg captured first, ending the day with a 319.
Had the Tigers not finished in the top two, they still would have qualified four, as John Quitno, Jacob Hammontree, Patrick Ferry, and Andrew Quitno all finished in the top 15.
For Nevada, John Quitno tallied a 3-over par 75, finishing two strokes behind tournament winner Bailey Woods of Warrensburg.
Hammontree, a sophomore, slid into a tie for sixth-place, shooting a 10-over par 82.
Sophomore Patrick Ferry earned an eighth-place finish, with a 12-over par 84. Andrew Quitno's 89 landed him in 15th place, while junior Levi Palmer's 92, gave him a 17th-place finish.
Nevada golf coach Brian Leonard said he was pleased with his team's final results.
"It was a tough course," Leonard said. "Johnny played great ---- any time you can shoot a 75 on this course.
"We pretty well knew we were getting through today. Next week, it's going to be a challenge. Warrensburg has been a thorn in our sides, because they've beat us the last two years in districts."
All-District accolades
Four members of the NHS golf team made the All-District team: John Quitno, Hammontree, Ferry, and Andrew Quitno.
Sectional tournament
Monday's Class 3 sectional will be held at Hoots Hollow Golf Course in Harrisonville. In addition to the top two teams, the 12 lowest individual scorers will qualify for the 2015 state tournament.
