Archer Daniels Midland in Deerfield celebrated Earth Week. Earth day events are held annually at the Deerfield location.

This year's activities included a neighborhood trash pickup on T Highway to 54 Highway and T Highway to Panama Road. Several employees were able to participate in the event on Friday afternoon.

ADM purchased small trees for each employee and contractor on site to take home and plant, as well as planting several trees on the ADM property.

ADM utilizes a local company for all of its paper, glass and plastic recycling. Employees are encouraged to bring items from home to recycle as well. The company also has bins for aluminum cans, scrap iron and copper to recycle.

Over the past year, ADM has upgraded lighting to improve energy consumption and implemented many other energy saving projects in the plant.

"ADM encourages all employees to participate in the many programs they offer to help make a difference in the community," noted a company press release.
