The Sixth Annual Nevada Young Authors' Conference at Truman Elementary was Saturday, May 2, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
At the conference, approximately 180 students from Truman Elementary, Benton Elementary, Appleton City, El Dorado Christian School, El Dorado Springs R-2, Hume, St. Mary's, and Sheldon School were excited about meeting and hearing from guest speakers Author/Illustrator Brad Sneed from Prairie Village, Kan., and Judy Young, author from Mink Creek, Idaho.
The conference hosted an estimated crowd of more than 500 Young Authors and their families.
The Nevada Young Authors' Conference was established mainly to provide a purpose for writing and a way for students to celebrate their accomplishments. The Young Author winners were second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders from Truman Elementary and Benton Elementary in Nevada, Appleton City, El Dorado Christian School, El Dorado Springs R-2, Hume, St. Mary's Catholic, and Sheldon schools.
Each student was given an autographed book from the authors and a T-shirt with a logo symbolizing this year's theme of "Doors to Another World." Students from Nevada High School's A+ program and Vernon County Retired Educators, as well as Truman's and Benton's teachers and principals gave assistance during the conference.
The Nevada Young Authors' Committee members thanked Truman's PTO, Cavener's Library & Office Supplies, Country Inn & Suites, Lewis Dunkeson (Designs By Dunk), Truman's Custodial Staff, Nevada Daily Mail, Vernon County Retired Educators, and Murphy-Brown, LLC for their contributions to the Nevada Young Authors' Conference.
