BOLIVAR ---- Nevada sophomore John Quitno is leading the 2015 Missouri Class 3 State Golf tournament after 18 holes.
The tournament is taking place at Bolivar's Silo Ridge Country Club.
Quitno's final round tee time is slated for 9:39 a.m. today. Quitno fired a 1-under par 71 Monday, giving him a two-stroke lead over Marshall's Cole Perkins, and Booneville's Brett Windsor.
Quitno started the day on the back-nine, shooting a 1-under par 35, before registering an even par 36 on the front-nine. Nevada golf coach Brian Leonard said Silo Ridge presented some challenges.
"The greens were lightning fast," he said. "You touched the ball and it went clear across the green. John had the feel of the greens and was putting really good."
According to Leonard, the last Nevada High School golfer to win the state tournament was Billy Wynn in 1985.
"The course will be tougher (today)," Leonard said. "The wind is supposed to pick up; No. 2 the pin placements will be tougher; and No. 3 it's the second day of state, and the pressure is on."
